COUNTDOWN TO LENT

Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent, is February 22.

Every Churchman is expected to be at the altar on Ash Wednesday. For your convenience, we will have three Ash Wednesday services: 6:00 a.m., 12:00 noon, and 7:00 p.m. All three of these services will be in the Church and there will be music at noon and 7:00 p.m. In addition, Montessori Episcopal School will have its Ash Wednesday service in the Church at 11:00 a.m. Ashes will be imposed at all four of the services.

Start now figuring out what your Lenten discipline will be. I strongly suggest you not give up eating whale meat unless whale meat happens to be one of your favorite indulgences. If you intend on giving something up, make it something near and dear to your heart. If you plan on taking something on, make sure it is something that will help you grow closer to the Lord.

LENTEN PACKETS

Be on the lookout for your Lenten packets. They will be available in the Narthex (the entry to the Church) by February 19.

RESULTS OF THE ANNUAL PARISH MEETING

The Annual Parish Meeting was held on Sunday, January 29, with a record crowd attending. To my absolute amazement we got through the entire agenda in fifty minutes. That is because Laura Braun, our outgoing Senior Warden, had all the presenters rehearse the meeting together. All presentations were brief and concise. Several people have said to me that they actually enjoyed the meeting, a sentiment I have rarely if ever heard before.  Get your copy of the REPORT here.

At the meeting it was announced that Mike Jones and Blair King had been elected on the first ballot. In succeeding ballots we also elected Shannon Goodson, thus completing our roster of nine vestry persons.

New Vestry officers are Bill Behrens, Senior Warden; Connie Bertram, Junior Warden; and Jim Young, Treasurer.

 OUR MANY THANKS

This has been, over all, a good year for the parish. For that we have a hardworking vestry to thank. Especially are we grateful to the three retiring members of the vestry: Laura Braun, Shirley Jones, and Blake Wegener.

If we all continue to work together with one mind, 2012 will be even better. Let's make it happen!

WEDNESDAY NIGHTS DURING LENT

Beginning February 29 we will have a five session program on the Lord's Prayer, using the contemporary version found in your Prayer Books. Guest speakers include our own Deacon James Pevehouse, the Rev. Gail Gately, Bishop Wallace Ohl, the Rev. Andrew Van Kirk, and the Rev. Jennifer Flowers. More on them later.

Wednesday Night Lenten schedule is Holy Eucharist in the Parish Hall at 6:30, supper immediately following provided by one of our parish organizations, the guest speaker, and closing with Compline in the Church. We should be done no later than 8:30. Baby sitters will be available in the nursery.
