Welcome!

Episcopal Church of the Annunciation

Lewisville, Texas

Thank you for visiting us. We know that there are many things competing for your time and attention, and trust the time you spend with us has helped to focus your mind and deepen your spirit.  We warmly welcome guests from other faith traditions, and those from none at all. We are honored by your presence, and sincerely hope you will visit us again.

What is the Church of the Annunciation?

Please allow us to introduce ourselves. The Church of the Annunciation is Episcopal. We are part of the Episcopal Church of the United States, the U.S. branch of the worldwide Anglican Communion. The Anglican Communion currently has approximately 80 million members and is the third largest Christian communion after the Roman and “Eastern” Orthodox churches (including the Russian Church).

Who Attends Services Here?

Our Church welcomes everyone, and an extraordinarily diverse group of people worship at Annunciation. We come from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Some of us run multinational companies. Others run households. At Annunciation, life-long Episcopalians worship alongside former Baptists, Methodists, converts from Roman Catholicism and the formerly un-churched, to name just a few. There is a reason.

Did You Know?

More than half of us (55%) come from other worship traditions. Former Baptists (13%), Roman Catholics (11%), Methodists (6%), Lutherans (4%) and many other faith traditions (including Christian Scientists, Presbyterians, Pentecostals, Reformed, Brethren, Hindus, former atheists, agnostics and many others) gather each Sunday in Christian worship alongside life-long Episcopalians (45%) 1. Annunciation warmly welcomes everyone.

What Do We Believe?

Though parishioners  (members) come from many different backgrounds, we are one people in Christ, and to truly understand us, you must understand the importance we place on Christian worship.

At Annunciation, our focus is on Christian worship, and we contantly strive as a congregation to transcend petty doctrinal disputes, zealous political leanings and hardened socioeconomic barriers.  You are truly welcome here.

Our Church is scriptural. We believe the Bible is the Word of God. Holy Scripture is the compass that guides our Faith, but we don’t worship the Bible – only the One who inspired it. Nor, do we use the Word of God in harshness, or to rashly impose beliefs on others.  It is our “memory” of God’s boundless love for all people.

Our Church honors ancient Christian practices which have been forwarded to us through two thousand years of Holy Tradition and Christian use.

Our Church encourages a balanced use of Scripture, Tradition and God-given reason to refine, solidify and deepen our faith. The importance of reason to our Faith can be seen in our on-going search for God’s Truth, and in our regard for all people – even those who disagree with us.

Our Church is considered “via media”, the middle way. Our doctrine is reformed, our spirit is evangelical and our practice is catholic, as summarized in the Creeds adopted by the early Church and sustained by God’s ongoing presence.

Our Faith is transparent as evidenced by our often public struggles to discern God’s intent for His Church in today’s troubled world.

Our parishioners are committed, as members of the Body of Christ on earth, to use their energies and talents to actively express the love of Christ to each other, and to the entire world.

37 “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.  38 This is the great and first commandment.  39 And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself.  40 On these two commandments depend all the law and the prophets.”

Matthew 22: 37-40

Is Annunciation Right for You?

Frankly, I don’t know.  Only you can decide that. But now that you know a little more about us, I invite you to come to one of our services so that we can meet each other. Ask questions – easy ones, hard ones. Then we can try to decide together if Annunciation is right for you.
