The music ministry features a vibrant instrumental and vocal program, providing all ages with opportunities to perform and grow in the context of worship. In all that we do, we seek to truly celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and our mutual journey as the beautiful, multicultural, multigenerational family of God. Each person who participates in this ministry is honored and appreciated, whether a novice, advanced amateur, or professional musician. New members to our choirs and instrumental ensembles are welcome. Requirements for participation are: a willingness to commit to regular rehearsals, a desire to serve God and others in a musical ministry, the understanding that musicianship is a lifelong journey, and finally, the ability to be a positive and supportive member in words and actions.
The style of worship at Annunciation is called Anglo-Catholic: Anglo meaning that it developed in England, and Catholic meaning that it embraces the heritage of the ancient Catholic mass tradition. Our services are filled with beloved hymns, chants, and psalms from The Hymnal 1982 and modern supplements to the hymnal like Wonder, Love, and Praise and Lift Every Voice and Sing, as well as songs from other traditions like Taizé. The magnificent Memorial Pipe Organ and choirs play prominent roles of leadership in our services and the rich acoustical environment provides a sense of awe and wonder.
This is a children’s choir for children ages four to nine. We learn hymns from the hymn book that we offer to the congregation once a month. By using our hymnal, it is hoped that the children will recognize and sing along at other times when these hymns are a part of the regular Sunday morning music.
This is a new choir being formed for children between the ages of 10 and 16 years old. Once we have enough children interested, weekly rehearsals will begin, and the Children's Choir will sing during the 8:30 a.m. service.
The Adult Choir is a non-auditioned ensemble. They lead the 11:00 a.m. service in all musical elements, including hymns, psalms, canticles, and other responses. The adult choir also sings for special occasions including but not limited to Thanksgiving Eve, Christmas Eve, and Holy Week. It is open to all ages, high school and above. No previous choral experience is necessary, though it may be helpful. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings from 7:30-9 PM, mid-August through May.
Grace Notes combines folk instruments with traditional Episcopal hymns and Taize music. They consist of stringed instruments and vocalists, and they lead the music for worship once a month at the 8:30 a.m. service, and occasionally on Wednesday evenings. The hymn schedule follows the liturgical calendar and supports the spiritual seasons. Vocals, guitars, dulcimers, and ukuleles are welcome.
Sounds Techs serve one Sunday a month at one of the three services. They are responsible for the sound system in the sanctuary during worship services, wedding and funerals.
