Faith Story

Posted by Julia Mayo on

In looking for a church, I first went to the website. We drove around and looked at churches in Denton and Lewisville. When my husband and I saw Annunciation, we both felt it was special. Having both been educators, we were also impressed by the Montessori Episcopal School. Jack was pleased to see the Scout van. In 1950, his scout troop from Van, TX attended the Philmont Scout Ranch in northern New Mexico. These were good signs.

As we walked up to the doors, we were greeted warmly by Dianne Vaughn. I soon learned this is so natural for her. She took us to the Welcoming Table to get our name tags and bulletin. She also introduced us to several people. At this moment, Tracey Jackson walked up and introduced herself and welcomed us to the church. Mother Leslie came over and gave me a hug and said, “I am so glad you found us.” Well, that sealed the deal.

As we entered the sanctuary, we found a pew that seemed to waiting for us. The next thing I knew Tracey was sitting next to me. The Cherub Choir had me in tears of joy. Jack and I look so forward to hearing these little angels sing. A few weeks later when someone recorded the Cherubs singing “Were You There When They Crucified My Lord,” I would listen to it as I put on my makeup for church. Because they always bring tears of joy, I learned to start very early as the eye makeup had to be reapplied many times.

The service was beautiful and Mother Catherine’s sermon touched our hearts and souls. It seemed to be exactly what we needed to hear. As we have learned over these many months, her sermons always seem to be directed at us.

After the service, we again saw Mother Leslie and she had hugs for both of us. She called us by our names and told us how glad she was that we were there. Never have we felt so at home.

By the time we got home from lunch, Alan Ladd had already been to our house with the Annunciation welcoming cup and church calendar. This was icing on the cake. This is a church that resounds with love. And, even better, it wants to share that love. We could not wait for the next Sunday. I called Brittnay at the Church Office and started the process to transfer our membership to “OUR” church.

A couple of weeks later, Mother Leslie had the Newcomers Welcome Meeting. The Welcoming Packet was filled with all the ministries that were available to us as well as the Church Directory. I circle the names of all the people we continue to meet. I will be ready for the new directory as we have so many new people since the last directory.

The two of us feel we are truly a part of a wonderful family. There are lots of people out there that need to know the love and joy that comes from worshipping Our Lord in this place called Annunciation. Let’s invite them to our church so they can experience what we have to offer.
