  BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I was raised in Springfield, Missouri, home to five generations of Hollands before me, and graduated from  Missouri State University in 1968 with a Bachelors of Science in Education.  I received my theological education at the General Theological Seminary, New York City, receiving a Master in Divinity degree.

I married my university sweetheart Gina (Regina) Holt following my first year in seminary and for the remaining two years was a “kept man” as Gina provided our income.  We had a great time living in Manhattan and were able to enjoy the many benefits of living in the Big Apple.

My ordained ministry began in Forth Worth, Texas in 1971 at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church. I left Texas in 1973 for Omaha Nebraska to be the Canon at historical Trinity Cathedral.  I also served as Rector of St. James Episcopal Church, Fremont before returning to the Diocese of Dallas.  During our five years in Nebraska our first two children were born in Omaha, Richard and Michael, but the harshest of the Nebraska winter made us long for Texas winters and air conditioned summers.  A wonderful by-product of our time in Nebraska is my avid support of the University of Nebraska football team, “Go Big Red”!

Back in Texas I served as Vicar to the people of St. Philip’s Church in Sulphur Springs.  In 1982 we moved to the Diocese of Texas where I was called to be the Rector of Holy Comforter, Angleton, Texas where our third child was born, Rachel.  Following a brief tenure as Rector of St. Christopher’s in Houston I accepted the Bishop of Dallas’ call to Lewisville and Annunciation in 1990.

Sadly, in January 2007, my beloved wife Gina succumbed to pancreatic cancer and was laid to rest on Saturday, January, 13, 2007 at Annunciation.  Gina's wish was that instead of flowers at her funeral, that a memorial fund be set up in her name.  As a result of the generosity and love through the donations of many, "Gina's Garden" was dedicated in November of 2007 in the main courtyard of Annunciation, where Gina spent many hours tending to her flower garden and beautifying the campus of Annunciation.

God bless you and yours,

Fr David
